10 Blog Commandments

Republished with the kind permission of The Faust Chronicle

  • You shall not put your blog before your integrity
  • You shall not make an idol of your blog
  • You shall not misuse your screen name by using your anonymity to sin
  • Remember the Sabbath day by taking one day off a week from your blog
  • Honour your fellow-bloggers above yourselves and do not give undue significance to their mistakes
  • You shall not murder someone else’s honour, reputation or feelings
  • You shall not use the web to commit or permit adultery in your mind
  • You shall not steal another person’s content
  • You shall not give false testimony against your fellow-blogger
  • You shall not covet your neighbor blog ranking. Be content with your own content

The commandments were originally 10 but some bloggers had a few more to add in the comment area:

  • PinkM: Thou shall not forget your fellow bloggers when your life gets too busy.

  • 3N: Thou shall not judge bloggers by the characters of their blogs.

  • Savvy: Whatever is said on the blogs shall not be taken as gospel truth....

Ciku,
Thanks for the much-nneded SERMON. We need reflection on these DECEPTIVE shores of ours. All around us are schemers will eyes singularly trained on anything but honesty.

But come to think of it. All these values and virtues are nothing but DOGMA albeit disguised. Are we as human beings so weak-hearted such that instead of confronting challenges we hide under platitudes while gracing the pulpit? Not judgemental though, just curious.

Oops, do we really need commandments for blogs? Or should blogging be a free for all? Or should we just ban blogs after all (cfr. Andrew Keen's book "The Cult of the Amateur")

I shall try and keep all of them.

Leet thanks for the additional commandment.

Rafiki blogosphere like any other place is a mix of different people and we need some sort of system hahaha. Thou Shall not leave blogosphere for a whole week!

Maua they're said to be close to the real thing so we shall not have a very tough time following them. Personally I have to work on that bit about the Sabbath. That I'm guilty.
