The Kenya We Want

When I first heard of The Kenya We Want conference long before it started, I thought that was a brilliant idea. But that was because I imagined it would be a forum by the people for the people. A place where all and sundry could go and air their views and frustrations but mostly frustrations. Our views are already well known albeit ignored.

Then I realized it was staged by the same old same old from the ruling elite. I was disheartened to see the usual suspects gracing the high table and reading boring speeches. Surely, whatever new ideas do these senior citizens have for Kenya that they’ve not implemented all these years? Where did their pre-election manifestos go anyway? Wouldn’t it be wise to take a peek into those first and see how far they’re following them?

Kenyans want an end to corruption and blatant theft Mr. President. An end to hunger, poverty and impunity. They want an improved judiciary so that the real culprits can leave their mansions and go to Kamiti. Do we really need to spend so much money on conferences to get these messages across? Let me guess how this will go. Reports and PDFs will be produced and stored somewhere to gather dust. Then life shall go on. That’s as pessimistic as can be but what’s there not to be pessimistic about in present Kenya?

Kenyans are a hard working and enterprising people. Provide an enabling environment and we’re good to go. Someone said that The Kenya We Want is all summarized in the words of the National Anthem.

Apologies for the lack of formating people. Google has taken all my formating somewhere, I dont know where. I'm working on it though.

It is very unfortunate. The same leaders (old and new) who were given all the opportunity to govern this country are talking about the Kenya we want. I wonder, what is stopping them?

Ciku,
And the charade continues albeit coloured in al the rainbow shades. We have seen anything yet with these scoundrels. Always doing commerce with Kenyan corpses, SHAME SHAME, tutado?

How can someone like Moi give an address to a conference on the Kenya We Want? Grrrrrrrr. Anyways, let me not stress myself to much. The Kenya I Want is one where some of these geezers are no longer citizens!!!

Oh, and did I mention I also want a Kenya where I can go to a strip club without being arrested? That, among other things!!!

My take on this is straight forward. The only surprise here is that we're surprised. There's only one group of people to blame here - and that's the Kenyan electorate for the collective gross negligence and incompetence of voting in these punks time and time again into leadership positions. Let's stop blaming these sorry arse folks and take responsibility of our failings as a citizenry, for not only voting irresponsibly, but also for being too complaicent to acknowledge this and take responsibility for it. It defies belief that out of a population of 30 million folks we're stuck with these punks.

As for your formatting Shiko - I suspect you're on html mode when in the "New Post" window...switch the window to the classic compose mode and blogger should return all your formatting whatsmijiggmifaces.

Not to take anything from Ms Deloris Jordan I really appreciate her contribution to bettering people's lives here but in a conference dubbed the Kenya We Want, why do we have to invite foreign speakers?

The Kenya We Want conference was what it was intended to be, a money making venture for some.

If people are shown on TV everyday eating wild fruits because of ravaging hunger, then you go about asking people what kind of Kenya they want? Surely......what do you expect them to tell you? They want a Kenya filled with 16 million shilling range rovers and hummers?

Eunuch said...

Mama,
Wacha wivu. Kwani si hata wwewe unataka HUMMER? Wacha wenye bongo wakule na wewe endelea kukaa hivyo hivyo.

I have given up on politicians and change completely. All I can hope is to at least get a catering gig during the next conference.

They're just money making schemes these things.

Mama said...

Eunuch, I don't want a hummer if my electorate is living in shanties and boiling water for dinner! Especially if my money comes from the said electorate.

I lost all interest in the conference whatsoever when I saw 'total man' Nicholas Biwott was a delegate!!!

Cee said...

I thought Kenyans already said Moi was not part of the Kenya we want together with Biwott, how can the Kenya we don|t want be the one deciding the Kenya we want? Sure talk about wrong combinations. And why are they using sooo much on old people who will not change a thing. I'd rather they do nothing than pretend by throwing away the tax payer's money. Where is this money coming from even considering they have been unable to pay the 10k promised to the IDPs? Arrrgggghhh Kenyan politics is just madness...arrrggghhh

I've been also pushing the idea, that elections in Kenya should be determined by voters in Nairobi. But the that would result in a few unhappy individuals.

But is it cost effective? The Kenya I want, as you said, is summarised in the National Anthem.

BP age/senility and greed that’s what.

Eunuch, shame indeed. United in theft, rainbows and all.

Our Kid lol. You’re not the one I saw on telly in that police land-rover some time back I hope? After a crack down on ‘these people’? Oh do they still use land-rovers? I forget.

Darius what to do. Each Kenyan to ask themselves whether they voted in a thief. I voted in Balala and that’s not because he’s cute. Now that Masai Mara trip scandal..…………
Darius I’m not on html. But plz drop me a line on wanjikuunlimited at gmail.com. this google/blogger thing needs help.

Mama which is worse, inviting foreign speakers or inviting the thieves themselves? Both are worse if you ask me.

Pink all the best in the tender. Utaweza? That process has it’s owners too like almost everything else in Kenya.

Kirima haki Biwott of all other people!

Cee it’s all PR. Probably for the western world donors. And the diplomats were there to Grace the occasion and push the PR message further.

Millitant that would result in quite a number of unhappy people not just a few. But I see where you’re coming from. Just trying to wonder how lobbying would go on. All buses, trains and anything that can move will be headed to Nairobi full of imported voters.

We've become everybody for himself country. I am not going to rant any more on politicians. I'll just do my bit until the moment we get a fresh faced president. A fresh face with hope like Obama

Shiko-Msa said...

True that Greamz. We stop ranting and wait for 2012 and do the necessary.

Cee said...

With the kind of politics in Kenya today, ranting at times is inevitable but then again after a while you even wonder. We complained about the same things in 92, 99, 2002, 2007 and now we move the bar to 2012. Sometimes I think Kenyans should stand and just "clean up the closet" sadly after cleaning the closet we add the same clothes only with newer material but the same designs set against us.

Rafiki said...

We all know the Kenya we want. We know the Kenya we don't want even better. Now the issues remaining are 'how to get there?' and 'how not to get to the other one?'

Screamer said...

I'm SICK OF TALKING! And No, we waited for 2007 to do the necessary, now we have to wait another 4 years? Let's do the necessary now! I guess the necessary means different things to each one of us.
